A senior Russian army officer has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to official statements.
The attack happened on Monday morning when an IED placed beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
The committee stated that one line of inquiry suggests the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Location of the Attack
Personnel have been are examining the location, which is said to be in a south district of the capital.
Reports indicate the detonation occurred in a vehicle lot near a residential building.
History of Assaults
Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.
This most recent event comes after other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a source from Ukraine earlier linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are never formally acknowledged as a matter of official stance.
