Individuals of an Italy-based family of thieves who took more than £1.2 million valued of items, including from former Newcastle United striker Isak, have been ordered to return only £1 per person.

Siblings Valentino and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela and her son Charlie Jovanovic journeyed to the north-east of the UK to raid multiple homes in April 2024.

The group of four were jailed for between a decade or less in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime proceeding at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie must hand over £1,135.

Particulars of the Break-ins

The judge was told the group came by ferry in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2024 and employed a campervan as their "headquarters", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service service stations while using a separate vehicle to scout out properties and execute burglaries.

On 31 March they stole over one million pounds of items including high-end fashion, handbags, jewellery and a CBE medal from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the owners were on holiday.

The following night, the crew entered a house on a private road in Whitburn, and took designer handbags, jewellery and footwear valued at more than one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out the football club's training ground for 48 hours, they then acted at the home of Sweden striker Alexander Isak in Darras Hall on April 4, taking £10,000 in cash, £68,000 worth of jewellery and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The gang, who were described by the prosecution as experienced itinerant burglars, wore hand coverings and masks, turned their phones on silent as they neared their targets and strapped a license plate, which had been stolen from a auto shop in a town, on to their car with rubber straps.

They were arrested in the Birmingham area on April 13.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Valentino had denied the burglary plot but was convicted by the court, while his family members had all entered admissions to the identical accusation.

At the proceeds of crime hearing, lawyer Daniel Cordey said each of the defendants had benefited from their crimes to the value of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the victims said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the only one found to have any money that could be "realised", specifically £1,135.50 which had previously been confiscated by authorities, the judge was informed, with 14 days to be spent in jail if he failed to pay.

The remaining members had no assets or property so were ordered to make a nominal fee of £1 each, with one week in incarceration the result if the money was not paid.

The judge Spragg said if they were found with assets in the future, "for example operating in Italy in a sports car or possessing a property", the prosecution could initiate new proceedings to "satisfy the sum outstanding".
