American Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Attack in Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
As stated by a senior military official, the US military executed a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.
“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Prior Strikes
This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military presence.
Just on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Tactics Amidst Scrutiny
The government has faced growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.
While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
