Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Against the Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that spot other than him with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto's team won the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
