The event will likely be held during winter months, as Qatar 2022 was. Infantino suggested the sport should get used to detaching from the European summer.

“We're deep into detailed discussions, ongoing conversations are happening,” he said. “It's not just about one World Cup, it's a general reflection. Even in certain European nations in July it is very, very hot.”

Optimizing the Football Calendar

Potential Hosts for 2029

Spain and Morocco are favorites to host the future competition, set to happen in the summer, although other contenders are being considered. A quick comeback to the United States could be entertained and sources suggest the Asian nation, previously arranged to host the tournament in 2021 before the pandemic, continues to show interest.

Officials are thinking about holding the Club World Cup biennially after 2029. Qatar appears most likely to host any 2031 edition, a move that would be more straightforward if the suggested adjustments come to fruition given a winter scheduling would be required.

Concerns About Domestic Games Abroad

Infantino expressed any lasting change towards organizing national league matches in foreign countries would be a “big risk”. Ongoing circumstances saw authorization provided for games in America and Australia, stressing this approval was under unique circumstances. The organization's ultimate decision is essentially automatic, though the president indicated the concept raised concerns.

“There exists a framework with competitions domestically, continental level and worldwide,” he explained. “This framework which built soccer the world's most popular sport globally. Should we dismantle this structure, we gamble significantly.”
