Individual Formally Accused with Attempted Murder in Shooting of National Football League Player Kris Boyd
An individual has been formally accused with attempted murder in connection with the shooting that injured New York Jets football athlete Kris Boyd.
Suspect Named and Taken Into Custody
The accused is a 20-year-old Bronx resident, age 20. Law enforcement took him into custody on Monday, facing multiple serious charges.
Circumstances of the Mid-November Incident
The serious shooting occurred in the early hours of 16 November, near a popular New York City restaurant. Law enforcement described the event as a dispute with a group of strangers.
Boyd, age 29, was with teammates and a third companion in Midtown Manhattan when the argument escalated.
It resulted in a physical confrontation, during which it is alleged Green shot the athlete twice in the torso.
Critical Wounds and Hospitalization
The gunshot struck Boyd's pulmonary organ and became embedded in his pulmonary artery. He was taken to hospital in grave condition but was eventually released.
Reports indicate he has recently seen his fellow players at a team training location.
Manhunt and Arrest in Buffalo
Surveillance video from the area allegedly captured Green running away and entering a vehicle operated by another person.
Police apprehended Green on 8 December in Buffalo, where he was reportedly hiding at his partner's residence.
A official announcement noted that "an individual" had been apprehended.
When a team surrounded the building, the suspect was seen "looking out the apartment window searching for an escape avenue but went back in after spotting the team and a canine officer," the statement added.
The confrontation ended shortly thereafter, when the man exited the residence with his hands up.
The accused had "modified his appearance presumably to not be recognized," law enforcement stated further.
The Player's Career Background
Before joining the Jets earlier this year, Boyd played the and Minnesota Vikings over several seasons in the NFL.
The cornerback had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after suffering a injury to his shoulder during practice in the late summer.
