Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
