Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
