New Year's Partygoers Told to Dress Warmly with Snow Predicted Throughout the UK
Meteorologists are reporting a frosty start to the new year, with snowfall likely across much of the UK. Those celebrating have been told to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Plans Go Ahead Despite Alerts
Edinburgh's iconic Hogmanay celebrations are set to go ahead, following last year's cancellation. This comes despite weather alerts for snow over northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so additional clothing will be needed," said the national forecaster.
Celebrations Under Mostly Clear but Frosty Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is expected to be ideal for fireworks celebrations, with no rain and good visibility. Temperatures are expected to be low, meaning additional clothing essential, said forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to affect visibility for viewing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Broad Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
Moving into Friday, advisories have been issued across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.
