The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
