The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
