Ukraine Initiates Large-Scale Manufacturing of New Defensive Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Ukraine has announced the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative domestically developed defensive UAV to reinforce its air defences. The first three manufacturers have started production, with an additional eleven getting ready to establish production lines, Ukrainian military officials announced on Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Proven in Battlefield Situations

The drones utilize a domestically developed technology called “Octopus” designed to intercept Shahed drones. The system has been tested in combat and proved effective “at night, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” officials stated. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of manufacturing as many as 1,000 defensive drones daily.

The Ukrainian president characterized Moscow's most recent assault against Ukraine as “deliberate, calculated and wicked” after six individuals were killed and many others injured in a series of night-time strikes across Kyiv. Ukraine’s general staff stated its forces had fired Neptune cruise missiles and deployed multiple kinds of strike drones in the attack on Novorossiysk “as part of operations to diminish the strategic capabilities of the invading force.”

Ukraine separately targeted an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region and an energy depot in nearby Engels overnight.

The number two oil producer Lukoil announced on Friday it has been in talks with interested parties concerning its international holdings following last month’s restrictions from the UK and the US and failure of an agreement with commodity trader Gunvor. “The specific deal will be announced once conclusive negotiations have been reached and required authorizations have been obtained,” the company commented.

Ukrainian President Schedules Diplomatic Trip to Spain

The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to travel to the Spanish capital, Madrid, next Tuesday to confer with parliament members a day after his visit to Paris, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. The Ukrainian president would meet deputies from both chambers of the legislature during his visit, an official announcement said.
